Brief Biography-Mihály Zichy was born in Zala, Hungary in 1827. He studied at Jakab Marastoni’s art school in Pest and with Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller Waldmüller in Vienna. Zichy later taught in Saint Petersburg and supported painters in need before living in Paris in 1874. His painting, Victory of the Genius of Destruction, was banned from the 1878 Paris Exposition due to its antimilitarist viewpoint. In 1881 he retired to Saint Petersburg, where he made a living primarily from doing illustrations. He also did a series of erotic drawings. He died in Saint Petersburg in 1906.
