Brief Biography-William Frederick Yeames was born in Taganrog, Rostov Oblast, Russia, in 1835. He is famed primarily for his painting And When Did You Last See Your Father, about parliamentarians interrogating a boy regarding the whereabouts of his loyalist father. His initial education was in Dresden, and he spent seven years in Italy studying the Great Masters. Finally, Yeames settled in London, where he was part of a group of artists known as the Saint John’s Wood Clique. He mainly painted English historical scenes of Tudor and Stuart times. In 1866 he became an Associate of the Royal Academy. |
