Brief Biography-Xuande Emperor was the only Emperor deemed a true artist, and his preference was for painting animals. His reign was considered the golden age of the Ming Dynasty. The magnificent Departure Herald Scroll, twenty-six meters long, going from the right to the left, is in the National Palace Museum in Taipei City. A companion scroll called the Return Clearing is thirty meters long; it goes from the left to the right. They are about a procession to and from the imperial tombs of the Ming Dynasty Emperors, beginning at the Peking City gate. |
