Brief Biography-Alexander von Wagner, or Sándor von Wagner, was born in Pest in 1838. He studied at the Real Gymnasium before going to the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts, followed by the Munich Academy of Fine arts under Karl von Piloty. In 1869 Wagner became a professor of history art at the Academy. He is famous for paintingThe Chariot Racein the story of Ben Hur. He died in Munich in 1919. Two of his most notable students were Pál Szinyei Merse and Franciszek Żmurko. |
