Sokrat Vorobiev

1817-1888 Russia/Academician

 

Brief Biography-Sokrat Vorobiev was the adopted son of Russian landscape painter Maxim Vorobiev. He studied at the Saint Petersburg Imperial Academy of Arts. He received the title of Artist, which furnished him with a stipend to travel. He spent six years in Italy, and Tsar Nicholas 1 commissioned him to do Italian landscapes on his travels. On his return, he was named an Academician and succeeded his father as a teacher at the academy, later becoming a professor. Eugène Gustav Dücker and Julius Sergius von Klever were amongst his most prominent students.
