Brief Biography-David Vinckboons was from Mechelen, Belgium. His family settled in Amsterdam, where he eventually died. His speciality was in genre paintings which he was renowned. His father tutored him, and Pieter Bruegel, the Elder, influenced his work. Distemper was his first medium, but he moved to oil for his later works. The German artist Johann Rottenhammer inserted many of the figures in his landscapes. He enjoyed considerable success during his lifetime. |
