Lucas van Uden

Brief Biography-Lucas van Uden was born in Antwerp in 1595. He was a landscape painter influenced by the style of Rubens and became accepted into the Guild of Saint Luke in 1627. His father, who was a town painter, initially taught him. Rubens engaged him to paint backgrounds in his works, and likewise, Rubens inserted staffage in his landscapes. He worked the entirety of his life in Antwerp except for a short journey up the Rhine. He died in Antwerp in 1672. |
