Adolph Tidemand

Brief Biography-Adolph Tidemand was born in Mandal, Norway, in 1814. He studied at the Copenhagen Academy, followed by the Düsseldorf school of painting under its director Friedrich Wilhelm Schadow and Theodor Hildebrandt. After a study trip to Italy, he returned to Norway in 1842, where he collaborated with Hans Gude, inserting staffage into the paintings. He succeeded in Norway, becoming a Court Painter and painting twelve pictures for the Royal Palace of Oscarhall. His works gained high esteem in Germany, Denmark, Sweden, and Holland, where principal academies elected him as a member. He died in Christiania in 1876. |
