Brief Biography-Henry Jones Thaddeus was born in Cork in 1859. He first studied at the School of Art in Cork and later at the Académie Julian Paris. He spent time in Florence studying old masters and became successful at portraiture, working out of his London studio. Thaddeus travelled extensively, took up Oriental painting in Algeria, Morocco, and Egypt, and was a full member of the RHA in 1901. He lived with his family in California until 1917, when he retired to the Isle of Wight. His most noted paintings are An Irish Eviction and The Wounded Soldier. |
