Brief Biography-Rabindranath Tagore obtained his education in England at the age of seventeen. In 1913 Tagore won the Nobel Prize for Literature, and in 1915, he received a knighthood for his works. Poetry was his leading profession, and his poems were successful in Europe; however, Tagore also composed music and painted. He was a close friend of Mahatma Gandhi and later relinquished his knighthood after the Amritsar massacre in 1919. The National Gallery of Modern Art in New Delhi holds many of his paintings. |
