Karel Škréta

Brief Biography-Karel Škréta was born in Prague in 1610. Aegidius Sadeler possibly tutored him. However, as a protestant, he fled to Saxony with his mother in 1628. From 1629 to 1634, he lived in Venice and visited Florence. After that, he went to Rome for two years, joining the Bentvueghels, taking the name Slagzwaart. He succeeded as a portraitist and settled in Prague in 1638, where he undertook altarpiece commissions. He died in Prague in 1674. |
