Brief Biography-Henryk Siemiradzki was born in Pieczeniegi, close to Kharkiv, in 1834. After graduating from Kharkiv University, the Petersburg Academy of Fine Arts admitted him in 1864. He spent time in Munich before finally settling in Rome in 1872. Siemiradzki won a gold medal at the Paris Exhibition of 1878 and received the Legion of Honour while later becoming a correspondent of the Académie des Beaux-Arts. Nero’s Torches, with which he became an academician and made a professor, is one of his most striking paintings. It is in the National Museum in Kraków. He received numerous awards throughout his career, one being the Commander of the Order of Saint Maurice and Lazarus, bestowed by the King of Italy. |
