Jakub Schikaneder

1855-1924 Czech Republic/Realism

 

Brief Biography-Jakub Schikaneder was born in Prague in 1855, and he was to study at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague in 1870. His paintings are primarily of subjects depicting poverty-stricken women. His most famous painting is Murder in the House, set in a back street of Prague, first exhibited in Berlin in 1890. Schikaneder spent his later years teaching at the College of Art in Prague.
