Edward Savage

1761-1817 America/Portraitist

 

Brief Biography-Edward Savage was born in Massachusetts in 1761. He studied briefly under Benjamin West in London, and on his return to America, he became famous for his portraits of President George Washington and his family. Savage was primarily a portraitist but also painted landscapes. He became the owner of art galleries in New York and Boston, exhibiting many works by notable artists amongst his paintings.
