Herman Saftleven the Younger

1609-1685 Holland/Baroque

Brief Biography-Herman Saftleven from Gorinchem settled in Utrecht in 1632. He received training from his father, Herman, and elder brother, Cornelis. He specialised in barn scenes but painted many landscapes, notably of the Rhine valleys and the city of Utrecht. Engraving and etching were his other specialities. Over 1200 of his drawings are still in existence.
