Edward Mateusz Römer

1848-1900 Russia/Portraiture-Landscapes

 

Brief Biography-Edward Mateusz Jan Oktawiusz Römer of Vologda, Russia, was the younger brother of the artist Alfred Isidore Römer. He worked mainly in Belarus but studied first with Kanuty Rusiecki in Vilnius. After that, he attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden and entered the Munich Academy of Fine arts. He worked out of his studio in Vilnius with his elder brother for two years before marrying into the nobility in Belarus. His last years were in Lunna, Belarus, where he enjoyed wealth and a successful career as a painter throughout Northern Europe.
