Brief Biography-José Rodrigues de Carvalho was born in Lisbon in 1827. He joined the Academy of Fine Arts in 1841 and won several awards during his studies. One of his fellow students was the later renowned Francisco Augusto Metrass of Lisbon. He spent most of his career painting portraits and became a teacher at various schools to make a living. As a result, he suffered from poor health. His most noted work was Blind Rabequista, presently in the Chiado Museum. |
