Francisco Rizi

Brief Biography-The Spanish artist Francisco Rizi was born in Madrid in 1608. His father, Antonio and his brother Fray Juan were also artists. He received training from the Florentine painter Vincencio Carducho who entered Spain in his youth with his older brother Bartolomeo. Rizi was appointed painter to King Philip IV in 1556 and later to Charles II. The latter made him Deputy Keeper of the Royal Keys. He decorated several churches in Madrid and worked as a painter for the cathedral of Toledo. He became the most celebrated Spanish artist of his time. He died whilst working at El Escorial in 1685. |
