Brief Biography-Jonathan Richardson, The Elder, was a pupil of John Riley and was strongly influenced by Sir Godfrey Kneller. He was, first and foremost, a writer about art. His essays influenced Joshua Reynolds, and his son Jonathan published writings of an equal standard on connoisseurship. Richardson acquired a substantial collection of works by notable masters throughout his life. |
