Yiannis Poulakas

Brief Biography-Yiannis Poulakas was born in Agios Georgios Nileias near Volos. When he was young, he visited Istanbul, then Constantinople, where he received his primary education in scenography and art. In Athens, Nikiforos Lytras was his first noted teacher; later, the seascapes of Konstantinos Volanakis influenced him. Volanakis was to become a close friend of Poulakas. His principal means of living was theatre scenography; however, he taught painting and calligraphy in Volos circa 1900 and later in Athens, where he died in 1942. |
