James Paterson

1854-1932 Scotland/Landscapes

Brief Biography-James Paterson was born in Glasgow in 1854. He studied at the Glasgow School of Art and visited Paris. Paterson was acquainted with the Glasgow Boys, who thought outside of academicism and painted en-plein, albeit with less emphasis on figures in his landscapes. He painted in Moniaive, Dumfriesshire, until 1905, when he settled in Edinburgh, where he was a member of the Royal Scottish Academy in 1910.
