Isaac van Ostade

1612-1649 Holland/Baroque

Brief Biography-Isaac van Ostade was born in Haarlem in 1621. His initial tuition was from his older brother Adriaen; as a result, many of his earlier works are like Adriaen’s. However, he eventually found a broader style, taking inspiration from the landscapes of Salomon van Ruysdael and possibly Albert Cuyp. His winter landscapes achieved considerable recognition, and his paintings are now in several galleries, the majority in England.
