William Osborne

1823-1901 Ireland/Painter of Animals

 

Brief Biography-William Osborne was born in Dublin in 1823. He was the father of Walter Osborne, who became a more successful painter in the latter half of the nineteenth century. In 1845, William was a student at the Royal Hibernian Academy. He began with portraiture and moved on to painting animals, for which he became famous. The Academy admitted him in 1868, and he exhibited there for the entirety of his life. The Ward Union Hunt was his most renowned painting. He died in Dublin in 1901.
