Brief Biography-Sir William Quiller Orchardson was born in Edinburgh in 1832. He studied at the Edinburgh Trustees’ Academy. Upon completing his studies, he worked as an illustrator for a publication and later exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy. In 1862 he went to London and eventually exhibited at the Royal Academy, becoming an Academician in 1877. He was a painter of historical and household works; some of his paintings were in the style of the Pre-Raphaelites. Orchardson received a knighthood in 1907. |
