Brief Biography-Frank O’Meara was born in Carlow in 1853. He was Ireland’s foremost en plein air painter, belonging to the Grez-sur-Loing colony in France, where he lived for eleven years. There, John Lavery was impressed by his work. O’Meara exhibited regularly at the Paris Salon and in England but only once at the Royal Hibernian Academy Dublin. He returned to Carlow in 1888 and died that same year of malaria; he was only thirty-five. |
