Brief Biography-Don Joseph de Mora, a sculptor, was born in Granada, where he became a disciple of Alonso Cano. He studied under Sebastián Herrera in Madrid, who strongly influenced his style. Mora was a sculptor for Charles II before returning to Granada in 1680, remaining there for the rest of his life. He produced pieces for the Royal College of Atocha and eight statues of different saints in the chapel of Cardinal Salazar in the Church of Cordova. Most of his works are in Granada. Unfortunately, he suffered mental stress when his wife died in 1704 and forbade anyone to enter or see his workshop. However, his brother Diego assisted him during that time. He died in Granada, and his remains lie in the Convent of Saint Anthony. His father, Bernardo Mora, was also a successful sculptor. |
