Don Lorenzo Montero

1640 (or 1656)-1710 Spain/Baroque

Brief Biography-Don Lorenzo Montero, a painter of flowers, fruits, architecture, and landscapes, was born in Seville in 1640. Montero moved to Madrid in 1680, where he painted decorations in the chapel of Saint Martha in the Church of Saint Jerome in Madrid. He painted in distemper as he could have improved his oil painting skill. Therefore, his figures were with the assistance of fellow artists. His most noted works were the scenes in the Theatre of the Royal Coliseum of Buen Retiro. He died in Madrid in 1710.
