Brief Biography-James Malton was a topographical draughtsman and painter who once worked for the architect James Gandon. His father, Thomas, and brother, Thomas the Younger, were also architects. Thomas the Younger painted views of England, and James painted mostly pictures of Dublin City. His most outstanding works are twenty-five etchings of Dublin City Picturesque Views. In addition, James wrote several essays; two of his most noted are entitled British Cottage Architecture and The Young Painter’s Maulstick. He died in London in 1803. |
