Kasimir Malevich

Brief Biography-Kasimir Malevich was born in Kyiv (Kiev) of Polish descent and was part of Russian Avant-garde art. He studied drawing in Kyiv in 1895 and attended the School of Painting in Moscow in 1904. In 1912, he spent a month in Paris, where Picasso and Cubism impressed him much. Over the next few years, Malevich became the exponent of Suprematism. He felt obliged to write about it in his book, From Cubism to Suprematism, and in 1918, he taught at the School of Higher Technical Studies in Moscow. Malevich continued to host numerous exhibitions throughout his life; one was in Germany, where members of the Bauhaus declared their appreciation of his work. He spent his last years teaching in Leningrad. |
