Frances MacDonald

1873-1921 Scotland/Symbolism

 

Brief Biography-Frances MacDonald MacNair was Born in Stoke on Trent in 1873 and was in Glasgow by 1890. She studied with her sister Margaret at the Glasgow School of Art, where they both met their future husbands, Herbert MacNair and Charles Rennie Mackintosh, also artists. They became known as The Four. They were exhibited in London and throughout Europe. Frances and Herbert lived in Liverpool, where he was a teacher, before returning to Glasgow in 1909. She died in 1921.
