Brief Biography-John Longstaff was born in Victoria, Australia, in 1861. The Irish-born artist George Folingsby encouraged his talents, and he won a scholarship enabling him to travel to Europe in 1887. He exhibited at the Paris Salon and spent time in London showing at the Royal Academy on his second visit. Longstaff became a war artist during WWI and received a knighthood in 1928. |
