Brief Biography-Karl Friedrich Lessing, the German Historical painter, began his studies with Karl Friedrich Schinkel, the Berlin architect and painter. In 1825, he studied under Wilhelm Schadow, and they both went on to the Kunst Akademie in Düsseldorf. Lessing became a fellow of the Berlin Academy, where his work held him in high esteem. In 1858, he gained the Directorship of the Grossherzogliche Gemäldegalerie, the Grand Ducal Picture Gallery, in Karlsruhe. The paintings of Caspar David Friedrich had a strong influence on Lessing. |
