Brief Biography-Jules Joseph Lefebvre from Tournan, France was tutored by Léon Cognietat the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. He quickly became a successful artist in Paris. Winning the Prix de Rome allowed him to study for five years in Rome. The works of Andrea del Sarto influenced him while he was in Italy. He later taught at the Académie Julian in Paris. Lefebvre had numerous students, many from America and subsequently became successful artists, including Childe Hassam, John Twachtman and many more. He received multiple honours and became a professor at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. |
