Brief Biography-Alexander Kucharsky (Alexandre Kucharski) was born in Warsaw in 1741. King Stanisław II Augustus arranged for him to study in Paris under Joseph-Marie Vien and Carle van Loo as a history painter. Instead, he became a portraitist and painted primarily for French and Polish nobility. He took over from Élisabeth-Louise Vigée-Le Brun as painter to Queen Marie-Antoinette. Kucharsky settled comfortably outside Paris for the remainder of his life. |
