John Lewis Krimmel

1786-1821 America/Genre Scenes

 

Brief Biography-John Lewis Krimmel of Württemberg was born in 1786. He began as an amateur painter influenced by W. Hogarth, B. West and D. Wilkie. Krimmel emigrated to America in 1809 and swiftly entered the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. He became a painter of genre scenes and history paintings, eventually becoming President of the Society of American Artists. Krimmel sadly died in a swimming accident at the young age of thirty-six in 1821.
