Thomas de Keyser

c. 1596-1667 Netherlands/Baroque

Brief Biography-Thomas de Keyser was born in Amsterdam to Hendrick de Keyser, the sculptor and architect. Thomas followed in his father’s footsteps as an architect; he was also a portraitist. His paintings influenced Rembrandt, and in turn, Rembrandt later influenced him. One of his most noted portraits was Constantijn Huygens and his Clerk. His small-scale works are of a higher standard than his large paintings. His brothers Pieter and Willem were also successful architects.
