Isidor Kaufmann

1853-1921 Hungary/Realism

 

Brief Biography-Isidor Kaufmann was born in Arad, Romania, part of Hungary, in 1853. He was a disciple of the Austrian portraitist Joseph Matthäus Aigner, a student of Friedrich von Amerling, and Joseph Matthias Trenkwald, a Czech historical painter. He painted genre scenes of Jewish life which received three gold medals. Some of his paintings are in the Tate, London.
