Willem Kalf
1619-1693 Holland/Baroque
|
Brief Biography-William Kalf was born in Rotterdam in 1619. He was a disciple of Hendrik Gerritsz Pot, a portraitist and history painter from Amsterdam who worked in Haarlem. However, it was not until after Kalf left his master that he concentrated on painting still lifes. Before working in Hoorn for seven years, he painted in Paris and eventually settled in Amsterdam. His outstanding blends of colour and fine texture details brought him to the fore of the Dutch Golden Age of painters. |
