Brief Biography-Ernst Josephson was a Swedish artist considered a painter of folklore and a portraitist, and his study years brought him to Italy and other European countries. Unfortunately, he suffered from syphilis at an early age. In his later years, Josephson became mentally ill, experiencing delusions of grandeur. He declared that he was to be the Rembrandt of Sweden during one of his many fits. He spent much of his life in institutions; however, he continued to paint notable paintings until he died in 1906. |
