Adriaen Isenbrant
c. 1490-1551 Flemish/Northern Renaissance
|
Brief Biography-Adriaen Isenbrant (Ysenbrandt) was a pupil of Gerard David. Little is clear about his life except that he was active after 1510 in Bruges, and the Guild of Saint Luke and Saint Eligius admitted him that year. Jan Mostaert of Haarlem was initially given attributions to many of his works, and still, scholars dispute some attributions to Isenbrant. Many of his commissions were for Spanish clients, which he sent to Spain via Antwerp. Jan van Eyck, Albrecht Dürer and Hans Memling may have influenced his painting. |
