Brief Biography-Arnold Houbraken was a painter and writer of the Dutch Golden Age. A native of Dordrecht, he is known chiefly for his biographies of Dutch artists. He was tutored by Jacobus Leveck for a short period and spent four years with Samuel Dirksz van Hoogstraten. He settled in Amsterdam with his wife and ten children. His son Jacobus was an engraver and his daughters Christina and Antonyna also became artists. |
