|
Brief Biography-Edward Atkinson Hornel of Kirkcudbright, Scotland, was born in 1864. He studied art in Edinburgh and Antwerp, and back in Scotland, he became acquainted with the Glasgow Boys. They were a group outside academicism who painted along the lines of plein-air, influenced by artists like Jules Bastien-Lepage. He visited Japan in 1893 with George Henry and took some inspiration from Japanese art, but to a different extent than Henry. On his return to Kirkcudbright, he settled into Broughton House, where he painted for the whole of his life. The house is now open to the public as a museum and art gallery. |
