Brief Biography-James Holland was born in Staffordshire, England, in 1799. He began painting pottery in a factory with his father early. In 1819, he painted in London and taught drawing, eventually exhibiting at the Royal Academy and becoming a member of The Society of Painters in Watercolours by 1856. His interest in architecture brought him to many European countries producing several paintings and drawings for book illustrations. Most of his work was in watercolour; however, he also painted in oils. |
