Brief Biography-Henry Holiday was born in London in 1839. He was closely associated with the Pre-Raphaelite artists. In addition to painting, Holiday was an illustrator, and Lewis Carroll commissioned him to illustrate The Hunting of the Snark. He also designed stained glass, set up successful glassworks in Hampstead, and undertook many works for churches throughout England. Holiday travelled extensively, gaining inspiration on his visits. His most notable painting is the Meeting of Dante and Beatrice. |
