Brief Biography-Francisco Henriques was a Netherlandish artist who settled in Portugal c.1500. One of his major works was the church’s high altar of Saint Francisco, Évora, and panels are on view in the National Museum of Ancient Art, Lisbon. Another of his better-known works was a high altarpiece in the Viseu Cathedral, presently in the Grão Vasco Museum. His workshop included Vasco Fernandes, better known as 'Grão Vasco' (the Great Vasco). In his later days, Henriques worked with Cristóvão de Figueiredo in Lisbon, where he died in 1518. |
