Brief Biography-Peter Bernhard Wilhelm Heine was born in Dresden in 1827. He studied at the Dresden Royal Academy of Art. After a three-year stay in Paris, Heine returned to Dresden in 1849 and was involved in the May Uprising but had to leave for America when it failed. He became a successful artist in New York. However, he got involved in politics while on an expedition to Central America. He engaged in missions to Germany and Japan as a diplomat and an official artist. He was active in the Civil War in America as a Brevet Brigadier General before returning to Dresden for his last years. Heine’s paintings are of various locations in America, Europe, and Asia. |
