Suzuki Harunobu 鈴木 春信
c. 1725-1770 Japan/Ukiyo-e Woodblock Prints

Brief Biography-Suzuki Harunobu became a proponent of ukiyo-e, a technique using woodblocks to do colour prints known as pictures of the floating world. Harunobu introduced his method of using many separate blocks, each different in colour, called Nishiki-e or Edo. Many of his works depicted nightlife scenes, and he also illustrated books on historical and genre subjects. He influenced many Japanese artists after him. |
