Juan Gris

Brief Biography-Juan Gris of Madrid first studied engineering and mechanical drafting at the Escuela de Artes y Manufacturas. He went to Paris in 1906, where he became acquainted with Pablo Picasso, who influenced him with Cubism. The works of Georges Braque also had an impression on him. Between 1912 and 1916, he had success with three art dealers, during which time he became one of the foremost cubist painters. He was also fruitful in designing costumes and sets for Sergei Diaghilev productions. In 1927 he died of renal failure in Boulogne-sur-Seine. |
