Nicolás Francés

Documented 1424-1468 Spain/Early Renaissance

 

Brief Biography-Nicolás Francés of Burgundy lived in León from 1424. He worked on several tasks in the Cathedral, including the retable. In the cloister, he painted mural decorations, and in addition, he painted many wood panels in the Cathedral, primarily in tempera with glazing. There are French and Flemish influences in his style. His Saint Gerome in his Cell altarpiece is in the National Gallery of Ireland.
