Pietro Facchetti

1535-1613 Italy/Mannerism

 

Brief Biography-Pietro Facchetti of Mantua was a disciple of Scipione Pulzone da Gaeta. His first tuition was in the studio of Lorenzo Costa the Younger, and his main subject was historical painting. In Rome, his portraiture excelled under Da Gaeta, and he stayed with portraits for the remainder of his life. His pictures were famous for resembling the sitters, who mainly were the nobility of Rome, particularly the ladies. He was also an engraver and became an art agent for the Gonzaga Family of Mantua. He died in Rome in 1613.
